These portraits were taken from portraits kept in the moscow armoury, painted in oils in the 17th century. The first one represents the son of tsar alexei mikhailovich, ivan. This prince, tsar from 1682, died on january 29, 1696, at the age of 30. According to the writers of his time, he was "in very poor health, had ill eyes and was nearsighted"1. His pale, sickly face in the portrait confirms this testimony. Ivan is depicted in armour, over which he wears an unbuttoned fur coat, fastened on the chest with a cuff made of precious stones. The royal crown lies on the table in front of him. A lithographed sheet of paper from the portrait of this tsar, kept in the kunstkamera of the academy of sciences, is attached to the "historical description of the clothing and armament of the russian troops" (part i). Another portrait depicts the daughter of tsar alexei mikhailovich, marfa, or margarita as a nun, who died on july 19, 1707, at the age of 55. 2 she was buried in the tomb of the alexander assumption monastery, where a portrait of this princess was placed over her tomb, which, according to professor shevyrev, "bears a great resemblance to peter the great and tsar alexei mikhailovich. " 3 but in the portrait attached here no such resemblance is visible either to her father or to her brother. The third portrait represents the first wife of peter i, evdokia feodorovna from the lopukhin family, the daughter of ilarion abramovich, who, according to ancient custom, was renamed feodor upon his elevation to the rank of boyar, and the tsar's bride paraskeva, his daughter, was renamed evdokia. The fate of this queen is known from the history of peter i, written under his influence. Here we see evdokia, in nun elena, in the attire of an involuntary nun, which she wore for about 30 years, from 1689 to 1727, transferred from monastery to monastery, under strict supervision, like a criminal. Forgotten by all, she reached the age of 58. But with the accession to the throne of her grandson peter ii, elena, having received her freedom, moved from the assumption ladoga monastery to moscow and there replaced the monastic robe with royal clothing. A special court staff was assigned to her. She survived the coronation, betrothal and premature death of her grandson; she died on august 27, 1731 at the age of 62 and was buried in the cathedral church of the ascension convent.
