iconographic description:
the scene is located on a cobblestone street. To the right of the image, a tall young man whose head is that of a racing dog, scrupulously notes down the addresses of care homes whose names are written on posters stuck to the wall in front of him. We can read: “treating diseases radical cure”, “home baths” or even “mercury gallant novelty”. In the background, while a young woman walks away, lifting her dress to avoid dirt, two people are talking. It is a paunchy man with his hands in his pockets who has the head of a wild boar and a little woman with the head of a parakeet. Extract from métamorphoses du jour (published by gustave havard libraire, paris, 1854): "john had seasickness like no one has ever had and will never have [. . . ] chronic seasickness [. . . ] the ardent desire he feels to get rid of an illness from which he asks to be cured to all the posters stuck to the walls.
