King John II of Castile, José María Rodríguez de Losada

Imaginary portrait of king juan ii of castile (1405-1454). He was the son of king henry iii of castile and queen catherine of lancaster. In 1431 the castilian army, commanded by the constable álvaro de luna, defeated the muslims in the battle of higueruela. In 1453 the constable and valid álvaro de luna was executed by order of juan ii in valladolid. And king john ii died in valladolid in 1454, at the age of 49 and was succeeded to the throne by his son, henry iv of castile. He was buried along with his second wife, queen isabel of portugal, in the miraflores charterhouse. Object Type: painting. Date: between circa 1892 and circa 1894.
