Relief of winged genius head from the reception hall s of the northwest palace of asurbanipal ii (883 bc - 859 bc) in nimrud (khalu). This relief sawn in 1850 by archaeologist austen henry layard to offer it to captain john hope was part of a ritual scene from "devotion to the tree of life" represented at the palace of assurbanipal ii. Probably, guardian of the palace, the genius wears a crown with horns, attribute of a divinity called to protect the king from his enemies. Dimensions: height: 61 cm (24 in); width: 64 cm (25.1 in).
