The caricature of hans christian andersen as a cow was given by the publisher ernst bojesen to the publisher peter nansen (the text p. N. Fra (from) e. B. At the top). The two started out as competing publishers but in 1903 merged their businesses into what is today known as the gyldendal publishing house. The text at the bottom (in danish) says q qvæg. At eie qvæg er stort og godt. Selv være qvæg, det er kun småt. Loosely translated it means cattle: to own cattle is nice and fine. To be like cattle is not so fine. The quote was taken from one of h.
