iconographic description:
interior scene. Shop and cobbler's workshop. The master cobbler and his wife side by side behind their counter distribute and control the work of their three workers. Hanging on the wall behind the couple is a compass. The woman makes thread on a small device, while the master holds in his right hand a knife for cutting pieces of leather, and with the other hand hands a shape to one of his apprentices. The workers wear a leather apron and, with their hands protected by gloves, they sew using an awl while holding their work in place using a long strap, the foot puller. Deer bones, which are used to polish the leather, are placed in a basket on the ground. On the workbench are placed a small press and pieces of skin as well as a bottle of wine. In the background, models of boots and mules hanging from the ceiling. Frame composed of palmettes and foliage. 17th century fashion. Themes / subjects / places represented:
