La morinie, allegorical composition. Painting reproduction of the vignette created by emmanuel wallet, drawing professor at the douai academy, for the société acadomique des antiquaires de la morinie. The vignette represents the muse of history, seated on ruins and tracing these unfinished words on a tablet: historia morin…, the history of morinie. The date of the destruction of thérouanne - capital of morinie - is recalled by a chronogram: deleti morini: 1553, in roman numerals. In the background, medieval and then roman ruins appear successively. The gothic ruins are an allusion to the numerous destructions of buildings during the revolutionary period, including the saint-bertin abbey, the silhouette of which can be discerned. The roman temple evokes the two thousand year old past of morinia. This painting, created by the daughter of louis ferey, one of the founders and first president of the société acadomique des antiquaires de la morinie, decorated the meeting room of the société des antiquaires de la morinie at the beginning of the 20th century. The painting was presented in 1843 in saint-omer by the exhibition organized by the agricultural society of the district (no. 203 of the booklet). Object Type: painting. Date: 1839. Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Société Académique des Antiquaires de la Morinie.
