The colony catalog says that “he was a just man. From childhood he showed his humility, his virtue and his sweetness. A tireless missionary, he restored the abandoned church of the company (1816) and invested all his assets in the construction of the san josé exercise house, which occupies an entire block (1821). From a simple clergyman he became a bishop (1830), and ten years later he was promoted to the archbishopric, becoming the first prelate of the archdiocese. He died in valparaíso on may 3, 1843. ” the work was donated to the national historical museum by luis surieta cañas in 1949. Date: 1862.
