Charlotte corday (right) stands full-face, bending forward, a knife in her right hand, looking towards marat (left), who has fallen to the ground, screaming, left arm raised, blood pouring from a gash in his waistcoat. She says, "down, down, to hell & say a female arm has made one bold attempt to free her country. " on the wall behind marat placards are indicated, two inscribed 'murders' and 'plans'. Below the title: 'who, while he was villifying some of the more moderate men in the convention and asserting that they should lose their heads stabed him saying, villian thy death shall precede theirs.
