Sitting room in subdued tones of gray, plaster-work ceiling, a metal chandelier suspended from center. At left, a sofa and three chairs form a conversation group around a pedestal table. One woman sits on sofa, another stands to her left and leans on an armchair. A group of portraits hang behind sofa. A tall metal stove and fire screen at rear center. Desk and chair in front of windows at right which are draped with red-and-white-stripped textile. Parital view of room through open door at rear, left. Date: 1844. Dimensions: Frame H x W x D: 39.7 x 50.2 x 2.5 cm (15 5/8 in. x 19 3/4 in. x 1 in.); ; Sheet: 21.6 x 31.8 cm (8 1/2 x 12 1/2 in.).
