Gezicht op een open schuur en toegang tot het erf, NG-1996-6-87, Esaias Boursse, 1662

Identification title(s): view of an open barn and access to the yard. Object type: sketchbook sheet object number: ng-1996-6-87. Description: in the foreground there is a road that bends to the left and has a high, overgrown verge. There is a woman standing on the right of the road. She is dressed in a foot-long wrap skirt (redda) and a wide shawl around her upper body and arms. The hair is put up in a bun (condé). On the left side of the verge, some steps lead to a simple wooden entrance gate with a (metal?) roof, crowned with a sphere. On the sidewalk in front of the gate stands a person dressed in a calf-length hip cloth (veshti, lungi) with a bare torso. His hair is pinned up in the back. To the right of the entrance begins a fence of vertical posts/slats, connected halfway by a long horizontal slat. Through the fence you can see the wooden skeleton of a shed crowned with a double roof of woven coconut palm leaves (cadjan). On the right side of the barn, a wall has been built halfway up in a traditional manner: woven screens of wicker, palm leaf and/or wood (warichchi), filled and covered with loam (mati). A woven mat hangs above the wall under the roof. There is a person under this roof and visible through the fence. It is probably a woman dressed in a long wrap skirt (redda) and a v-neck blouse (hatte). Behind this person the wall and roof of a mud building further away can be seen. The same building (mati geya) with palm roof and open door entrance is drawn on the right behind the barn. In the left background, vegetation or a barrier along the road is indicated by vague hatching, above which the crowns of two deciduous trees protrude. Sheet 87 from a sketchbook with 117 sheets.
