Lapland; obelisk on plinth lettered 'laponia', the obelisk decorated with four coins or medals of the swedish monarchs gustav adolf, christina, karl gustav and karl xi; the obelisk supported by two laplanders with dead stags at their feet and various utensils, including a canoe, skis and bow and arrow, at its top the north star and constellations; at top, hanging from the plinth and below, six numbered details of medals; illustration to aubry de la motraye's 'travels through europe, asia, and into part of africa. .
