1806 "shipwreck off the coast of alaska," oil on canvas by louis-philippe crepin (1772-1851). The painting depicts the july 13, 1786 wrecks of three small boats that resulted in the death of 21 frenchmen at lituya bay, alaska. The ships were part of jean françois de galaup, comte de lapérouse's scientific expedition. Date: 1806.
