Agustín juan maría vial y santelices was a chilean lawyer and judge. Son of manuel josé de vial jarabeitía and maría mercedes santelices aránguiz. Married to maría del rosario formas, he had nine children, of whom manuel camilo vial would also be a prominent politician. He studied at the royal university of san felipe (1793) and at the royal college of san carlos. He qualified as a lawyer before the royal court on april 16, 1798. He was acting secretary of the captaincy general in 1799, and senior property officer in 1800. In 1802 he would be mayor of the valparaíso customs house. After the rancagua disaster in 1814, he was arrested and exiled to the juan fernández archipelago, returning to chile after the chilean victory in the battle of chacabuco (1817). He would be banished by bernardo o'higgins, who would make him return after a year. On december 23, 1823, he presented to the constituent congress the project of estanco del tabaco, of his authorship. Date: 1854.
