This oil painting by the painter and (later) photographer ferdinand tellgmann, dated and signed in 1837, with the portrait of a porcelain painter titled by its current owner, the museumslandschaft hessen kassel, is considered a typical example of tellgmann's biedermeier portrait painting style. The picture illustrates both tellgmann's closeness to nature and the colorism trained on the models of the old dutch. The painting, measuring 42. 3 x 36. 2 cm, from the previous owner (provenance) victor wichura from büchenwerra, became the property of the museumslandschaft in 1954. The museum describes the depiction as follows: “half-figure en face in a dark suit, light waistcoat, white shirt, with a decorative pin and black tie, sitting at a table. His right arm rests on a workbench that is on the table next to him. His right hand holds a brush, his left hand a plate that is still unpainted except for the narrow rim decoration. On the table is a finished cup, next to it is a porcelain pipe bowl. ” the museum landscape originally and probably mistakenly claimed its own copyright for the two-dimensional reproduction on its website by means of a copyright symbol.
