I. E. Repin. "kozma kryuchkov". 1914. Oil on canvas. (national museum in belgrade). With the outbreak of the first world war, the wave of "patriotism" carried repin away. He painted a large canvas. Repin took his old canvas with a picture on the subject of the russo-japanese war "centurion zinoviev" - and painted "kozma kryuchkov" over it. The popular plot, the dull face of the first knight of st. George in this war, the forelocked cossack kozma kryuchkov, was published in all illustrated publications. His courage in the fight with eleven germans was described in every possible way, and different versions of these descriptions excluded the possibility of establishing the true events. Repin depicted the cossack, a descendant of the zaporozhian cossacks, full of strength, waving the butt of his gun like a club and crushing the germans. (carellina e. Repin in “penates”. L. , 1977, p. 144. ). Date: 1914.
