This unfortunately low-resolution reproduction of a photograph (ferrotype with a view of the writer and poet theodor storm) is probably the work of ferdinand tellgmann, the painter, daguerreotype pioneer, portrait photographer and founder of the tellgmann photography dynasty. The germanist gerd eversberg noted the photo on his website g. Eversberg. Eu under the title theodor storm and photography: “during storm’s stay in heiligenstadt (1856-1864), the painter and photographer ferdinand tellgmann (1811-1897) travelled through the eichsfeld; at the beginning of july 1858 he placed an advertisement in the ober-eichsfelder kreisanzeiger and offered his services for a few weeks. He had set up his studio on the property of storm’s brother otto, who had been running a nursery there for several years. It was in the greenhouses of this nursery that the photographs could be produced because of the good lighting conditions. Tellgmann made mainly portrait photographs and "copies of pictures of all kinds". [22] the ferrotype that theodor storm shows in the 1860s may have been made by tellgmann; other photographs from his workshop have not survived. [23]". Date: circa 1860.
