The "stanza dell'incendio" is the name used for what was originally the dining room on the third floor of the papal palace in the vatican. The name derives from the fresco on the wall, showing a fire in the borgo of rome, just opposite the vatican. The fresco was designed by raphael and finished by his assistants after his death. The experts at bruun rasmussen informed us that hansen's painting showed raphael describing his plans for the decoration of the vatican to the pope. In that case there is something wrong with the chronology, as the fresco appears to be completed at the time. Hansen made another painting of the room in 1876, see "other versions". Object Type: painting. Date: 1876. Dimensions: height: 51 cm (20 in); width: 63 cm (24.8 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Unknown.
