Last moments of diego portales (santiago, june 16, 1793 - valparaíso, june 6, 1837) was a chilean politician, merchant and minister of state, one of the fundamental figures of the political organization of his country. A controversial character, he is seen by many as the organizer of the republic and by others as a tyrannical dictator. He politically led the conservative forces in the civil war of 1829-1830 and, after refusing the presidency of the republic, he collaborated with the government of joaquín prieto by applying harsh measures, which included banishments and shootings of opponents of the regime, to impose order. He saw the creation of the peru-bolivian confederation as a threat to chile, so he promoted a war against said alliance. As a result of this event, a military uprising took place that ended his life. Date: "Corre Vuela" de 1908.
