Christopher columbus was a whaleback excursion liner designed by alexander mcdougall and built in 1892-1893 in superior, wisconsin by american steel barge company for service to ferry passengers to and from the world's columbian exposition, and later placed in general and excursion service to various ports around the great lakes. This photo, used on a postcard, was taken during construction at the american steel barge company facility in superior, wisconsin. Date: Taken during the 1892 construction season.
