Field marshal count axel sparre (1652-1728) was one of charles xii's closest friends. Son of axel carlsson sparre and margareta, née oxenstierna af korsholm and wasa and half-brother of erik sparre af sundby. Axel sparre participated in charles xii's campaigns 1700–1709 in the great nordic war, including the battle of düna, the battle of kliszów, the battle of fraustadt and the battle of poltava. Sparre then accompanied the monarch to bender and took command of the swedish army there after karl xii returned to sweden. Sparre was active as an artist and is represented at, among others, the national museum in stockholm. Date: 1 January 1700.
