The canvas represents a christian martyr during the time of emperor diocletian, who persecuted christians. The martyr's body is covered with a white robe, lying on a torture rack, with her feet and wrists tied with ropes. At the feet of the victim, there is the cut with the bloody axe. This work is inspired by the spanish masters of the 17th century, with a tenebrist tendency.
