Historical commentary:
the inscriptions affixed to the back of the prints correspond to a system of marks and classification of the historical commission of old paris: the number written in red in pencil or ink is that of the negative. The figure written in grease pencil provides information on the existence of a slide, projection view (kept at the old paris commission). The number in blue identifies the subject photographed which is part of a photographic campaign carried out at a given location. The photographs from this campaign are gathered in a file which bears the name of the place (street or topographical area). [information from the historical commission of old paris].
