Plate 10: the arch of the portuguese: front face; two-tiered structure with a portal framed by corinthian columns flanked by narrow wings; the large painting on upper central tympanum depicting philip iv , king of spain, dispatching his brother ferdinand to liberate germany; flanked on either side by a balustrade with armed children riding sea-horses, armour and two bound captives; above two winged female figures bear standards and support the imperial escutcheon at centre; the royal portraits in lower niches flanking archway represent philip ii, king of spain and portugal, and emanuel i, king of portugal; after ludovicus nonnius; unsigned; illustration for gaspar gevaerts' "pompa introitus" (antwerp, 1641) etching.
