Spanish and american ranchos incorporates an old map of the spanish and mexican ranches of early los angeles. The left section of the painting depicts the legendary sale of a large part of the city for a barrel of wine, some groceries and two hundred dollars. The deed of sale is being signed on the wine barrel. In the left background, a mission is shown. On the right, figures represent the typical life on the early ranches. Date: 1939.
