Satire on william hogarth and his supposed support of lord bute. Hogarth seated at his easel wearing a smock and fool's cap paints a portrait of john wilkes based on his print (paulson 214); his pug lies beneath his chair; bute stands behind him; mrs hogarth sits at a table beyond in the pose of hogarth's painting 'sigismunda mourning over the heart of guiscardo' (tate, no. 1046).
