"the portrait of emperor ferdinand ii of habsburg is a counterpart to that of his wife eleonora gonzaga (inv. Pal. , 203) married in 1622. The pair of portraits were probably painted in vienna by suttermans around 1623 and sent to florence as a sign of thanks to the regent grand duchess maria maddalena of austria for having accepted that the painter went to the austrian court to create the portraits full-length officers of the two rulers" [1].
