The battle-cruiser 'Renown' or 'Repulse'; and studies of a man in a rowing boat RMG PV3180, William Lionel Wyllie, 1915
The battle-cruiser 'renown' or 'repulse'; and studies of a man in a rowing boat
the main study at the top of the sheet is a distant port-quarter view of one of the battlecruisers, 'renown' or 'repulse' in late 1916 or early 1917 before the removal of the main topmast. She appears to be making passage with other units in the distance, and a small fishing or rowing boat in the foreground. The three pencil sketches below are a rapid analysis of the body movements of a man sculling a similar rowing boat (that is, standing and propelling it by a twisting motion of a single oar over the stern). Date: 1915. Dimensions: 253 mm x 355 mm. Collection: Fine art.
