In 1893/94, an extension to the bochum town hall was built with the new meeting room for the city council. The painting in the style of historical painting was called: "granting of city rights at blankenstein castle". According to the belief at the time, the city of bochum was granted city rights by count engelbert ii on june 8, 1321. The painting disappeared when the building was demolished in the late 1920s.
