Hardales in Spanien, entre 1623 y 1678

View of the town of ardales, in the current province of málaga (spain), recorded by daniel meisner around 1623 and published in nuremberg by eberhard kieser in the following years, until 1678. Like all views of meisner's work, it is titled with a latin phrase, in this case "praestat amittere partem, quam totum. Hardales in spanien" (it is better to lose a part than the whole. Ardales in spain). Below it reads in latin "effugit insidias cum membra virilia castor" (beaver harassed, tearing off his virile member that hinders his escape), which corresponds to the hunting scene represented. This scene has been interpreted as a message of consolation for the protestants defeated by catholic forces during the thirty years' war (a. Gámiz gordo, 2008, pp. 108-109). Date: entre 1623 y 1678.
