Seascape with steam- and sailing ships, Carl Frederik Sørensen, 1863
The title "seascape with steam- and sailing ships" is not very descriptive. These are in fact the danish naval ships rolf krake and geiser off the coast of scotland in 1863. Geiser was sent to scotland with a crew for the rolf krake, which was being built by robert napier. Sørensen made a drawing of the two ships during a trial on june 29, which was later used by the weekly illustreret tidende. This is a much more vivid version. The ships left glasgow on july 3 1863 and were in copenhagen on the 9th. (source:r. Steen steensen: vore panserskibe, page 242). Object Type: painting. Genre: marine art. Date: 1863.
