Our Lady of Guide of Wayfarers (Odigitria), Dionisius, 1482

Our Lady of Guide of Wayfarers (Odigitria), Dionisius, 1482

The earliest of dionysius's works that has come down to us. According to the chronicle, during a fire in 1482, the icon of greek origin was burnt, losing its paint layer. Dionysius was commissioned to paint a new image on the same board using the same iconographic scheme. The icon, restored by dionysius, preserves the features of the ancient iconography of the famous miraculous image of the odegon monastery in constantinople (according to the chronicle's testimony, "to the same extent; to the same image"). The painting of the icon, especially its personal style ["personal", with the stress on the letter "o", i. E. The style of the faces], has features of dionysius's style. The features of the faces are drawn in a characteristically graceful and light manner. Object Type: painting. Genre: religious art. Date: 1482. Dimensions: height: 135 cm (53.1 in); width: 111 cm (43.7 in). Medium: tempera on wood. Collection: Tretyakov Gallery. Dionisy - Богоматерь Одигитрия - Google Art Project
