Dhuah Koonde, William Daniell, 1803

Plate 11 from the fourth set of thomas and william daniell's 'oriental scenery,' which they called 'twenty-four landscapes. ' the dhua kund, or pool of smoke, in south bihar is so called because of the misty vapour that comes up from the kao river as it drops down in a cascade to join the river son. This feature particularly attracted the daniells who noticed that the visitors venerated the place as a sacred site. Object Type: print. Date: 1803. Dimensions: height: 42.3 cm (16.6 in); width: 59.1 cm (23.2 in). Medium: aquatint print. Depicted Place: Dhua Kund. Dhuah Koonde - British Library X432 4(11)
