Portrait of madame du barry in a white veil dress, green corset and wearing a large green hat decorated with flowers and an ostrich feather. Wearing a pearl necklace and pendants, she is leaning on a red sofa. Round miniature on ivory, circa 1775-1780. D_6. 6 cm provenance: former félix panhard collection bibliography: our subject takes up the famous iconography of the countess du barry by her friend madame vigée-lebrun, this time in a pose familiar to campana, as well as the portraits of marie-antoinette and the princess of lamballe (louvre museum), both three-quarter length, almost facing forward and leaning on their elbows. The artist gives us a moving testimony from the former favorite of king louis xv for whom joseph ii, emperor and brother of queen marie-antoinette, wrote these famous words during a visit to paris in 1777: "passez, madame, la beauté est toujours reine". Among the abundant bibliography devoted to the artist, one will consult the catalogue of the tansey collection "miniatures from the time of marie-antoinette", as well as the works of léo schidlof (volume 1) and lemoine-bouchard (page 136). Date: 18th century. Medium: miniature portrait. Collection: Unidentified location.
