On the wall of dte, a graffiti representing a sort of man with the head of a monster iconographic description: explanation p. 971 of number 122 and p. 979 of number 123. Pl. N°4 of a series of 4 pl. , within pl. Monthly lithography, on the theme of agricultural work to the rhythm of the four seasons. A granary of abundance is a warehouse where the year's grain is stored. Here the wheat is embodied by a man of the people (incarnation of the people, in a broader sense), lying on the ground, in the center of the composition. The members of the government beat this man with their flails in order to extract the grains, which are here, gold coins. The scourges representing "ministerial laws" (in explanation), grandville denounces, through this pl. , the relentlessness implemented by the government to tax the people and recover as much money as possible. The central group brings together the ministers busy beating man to the ground with their scourges. There are: d'argout holding the "flage of the interior […] [interior]", thiers holding the "flague of commerce", humann waving the "flage of finances", soult the "flague of war", barthe the "scourge of justice". Guizot holds a flail with thorns and seems to watch the scene unfolding before his eyes. In the background, madier de montjau is on the sidelines, also holding a flail. Another character (?) seems to be adjusting his flail. In the foreground, a man smoking a pipe (probably louis-philippe), busy pouring gold coins taken from the common man into a large bag. On the left, lobau is aside: while urinating in a watering can, he looks at the viewer. He is holding a flail that reads “public order scourge. ” in the background, an open door allows you to see the buildings located near the attic: these are the tuileries palace and the chamber of deputies, placed side by side. A figure of freedom wearing a phrygian cap joins his hands to beg the men to stop this massacre. On the right wall hang a top hat decorated with the tricolor cockade and an umbrella (which louis-philippe certainly left there). Person / character depicted: thiers, adolphe; louis-philippe i, king of the french; humann, jean georges; madier de montjau, joseph paulin; soult, nicolas-jean de dieu; guizot, françois; barthe, felix; mouton, georges, count of lobau; argout, antoine maurice apollinaire d', baron mode of acquisition: retrospective registration date of acquisition: 20–02–2013 institution: maison de balzac.
