Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1944-12-29) letter no. 302 (1945-01-04) next letter (1945-01-06) envelope: front back text [at 12:30 noon we had to] go to the barracks. I tasted my ration of schnapps and then heard the führer's speech. I went out into the hallway again where a sergeant met me and dragged me to the boss's apartment where there was a big party going on. I was now in the middle of the officers and sergeants with their wives in a sweater. We had a great band with 5 men. I quickly put on my blouse and shoes and then we danced until the sparks flew. There was strawberry punch to drink, it was great and went on until 5:00 a. M. So i got into 45 quite well after all. - otherwise i'm fine, a lot of work but that doesn't matter. At the moment we have the alarm again, it's 12:45 at night. How are things with you? just be careful! so, my mamschl, good night. Warm greetings and kisses from your hansl. Date: 4 January 1945.
