The Luisenquelle in Frederiksdahl, Caspar David Friedrich, 1797

The Luisenquelle in Frederiksdahl, Caspar David Friedrich, 1797

The watercolor, painted on august 6, 1797, is the last in a series of depictions of fountain monuments in the copenhagen area (cf. Cat. 1916-147), which are more topographical in concept, but they also reflect the type of garden popular in denmark at the time, described by christian hirschfeld in his 1779 "theory of garden art. " the topographical determination of the fountain monument is thanks to börsch-supan, who identified the monument as a spring in the park of frederiksdahl castle, northwest of copenhagen. Object Type: watercolor painting. Date: 1797. Collection: Hamburger Kunsthalle. Friedrich, Caspar David - Die Luisenquelle in Frederiksdahl - Hamburger Kunsthalle, Kupferstichkabinett
