Paul-françois des hours-farel, known as paulin, from an important protestant family, became mayor of montpellier in 1831. Antoine gros painted him during his trip to italy, stranded in montpellier awaiting his passport. In the background the château de mézouls, south-east of montpellier in the commune of maugio.
