iconographic description:
this intimate gouache can be considered as the double portrait of an artist and his wife. It is the evocation, so dear to the 18th century, of the role of the arts in family or social life. Indeed, aristocrats or bourgeois played various instruments, harp, guitar, viola da gamba, violin, flute or spinet, and met with friends to form small chamber orchestras. The theme of the concert or the music lesson is very frequent in the graphic arts, especially in the years 1770-1780 when artists were particularly interested in the painting of society.
