The following is an account of the ball by the historian charles de la varenne, whom riou often mentions in his letters. -court ball. Monday evening, january 24, a grand ball, the announcement of which had stirred up the entire society of the capital for several days, brought together at the castle, around the king, his daughter and his future son-in-law, the court elite of the army and the administration the diplomatic corps attended in full.
