Very Rich Hours of the Duke of Berry Folio 4, verso: April, between 1412 and 1416

The main subject of this painting is an engagement scene: in the foreground, on the left, a couple exchanges rings in front of two witnesses and another character, represented behind, smaller than the others. Further in the center, two attendants are picking flowers. On the right, we see an orchard enclosed by walls and a crenellated building. In the background stands a castle, often referred to as the château de dourdan. It could also be the château de pierrefonds. Object Type: manuscript illumination. Genre: genre art.
