view of the battle of saint-denis, with the city and the basilica shown on the right side of the print. The protestant troops, on the right, defend their positions against the royal and catholic charge coming out of besieged paris: in the foreground, arquebusiers protected by an earth levee fire on the right flank of their enemies, while in the center of the image the clash between the two heavy cavalries of the belligerents begins. The constable anne de montmorency is shown in the middle of this melee, his sword raised to the sky, but falling from his horse due to the pistol shot given to him by a rider on his right.
