Source of inspiration: "mordecai wrote [. . ] and sent letters to all the jews who were in all the provinces of king ahasuerus, near and far, ordering them to celebrate the fourteenth day of the month of adar, and the fifteenth of the same month, of each year, as days in which the jews were at peace with their enemies, and as the month in which sadness was changed to joy, and mourning to festivity; to make them days of feasting and for joy, in a day of sending gifts each to his neighbor, and gifts to the poor" (esther 9:20-22).
