The Obedient Child from Musashi Province, an example from the Collection of Sand and Pebbles, Yashima Gakutei, between 1820 and 1825
Two boys in front of a screen showing surf and the moon. The boys have both recently lost their fathers, one is poor and the other is rich. The poor boy saw his father in a dream who told him to pay off the debt owed to the rich man's son. Here he tries to do that by offering a gold piece. The rich boy refuses the gold piece and asks him to make a sacrifice to both their fathers in lieu of payment. With two poems, one poem is about the dream: waking up from the first prosperous dream is like a hundred pieces of gold when the ear also hears the song of the mockingbird.
