Identity of saltonstall (center) and dabney (left) established by comparison with another daguerreotype, taken at the same sitting, in the collection of the massachusetts historical society, published in the book, improper bostonians (beacon press, 1998), and archived at the website of the history project. The third man is likely another of saltonstall's harvard classmates, but as yet is unidentified. Date: circa 1850.
