It fixes the moment when captain general pedro álvares cabral, pilots and sailors “came in sight of land, which was called, firstly, vera cruz”; places the characters on the deck of the flagship staring, first, at “the still vague outline” and then at the “flat land, with large trees” and then pointing at the large, very tall and round mountain “which would be called paschal, as they are eight steps away from easter”.
