It represents the same subject as goya's later version (p00750), from 1788, that of the surroundings of the hermitage of the patron saint of madrid, towards the banks of the manzanares river, on the day of his feast, may 15. Numerous groups of majos and majas have fun singing, eating and walking along the banks of the river, with a prominent figure in blue in the center of the composition, who plays an elongated guitar with a dark neck, typical features of 18th century guitars. The concept of urban landscape differs from goya's, who intended a general view of madrid in the background, and the meadow in the foreground, with all the bustle of the town on the holiday. Castillo resorted to a generic landscape, with garden trees and few groups of figures, although in the background the silhouette of the toledo bridge can be seen. It is a preparatory sketch for the tapestry cardboard (p03932), destined for the infante's bedroom in the el pardo palace, of exceptional dimensions, property of the prado museum and deposited in the municipal museum of madrid (text extracted from mena, m. : goya and spanish painting of the 18th century. Guide, 2000, p. 132). Object Type: painting. Date: 1785. Dimensions: 49 × 99.5 cm (19.2 × 39.1 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Museo del Prado. La pradera de San Isidro, por José del Castillo
