A portly gentleman sits in front of an easel and looks at the painting of a painter who, in turn, is attentively following the visitor's reactions. Preliminary study for the "meggendorfer blätter", with publisher's stamp on the verso. The painting shows a swineherd dressed in antique clothing who is giving two animals a drink from his beer mug.
