Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1944-05-10) letter no. 249 (1944-05-19) next letter (1944-05-24) envelope: front back text [mom, how can you write that to me and tell me to tell lisel that i have a bad mother. I can't lie like that when i have the kindest and best mother there is. I can get over this little bit of nonsense. Lisel wouldn't have believed me either, i've already told her how sweet and good you are, she says it's definitely my fault. I haven't seen her yet, imagine she was at the station at 7:38 a. M. And i didn't get there until about 8:30 a. M. I passed on the greetings from you, she thanks me very much and sends her warm greetings again. She's coming to visit me on sunday. I wrote to you about my departure and arrival here. I went for a walk the hour that the train left because i didn't want to see the soldiers and the farewell atmosphere at the station. I would have come to see you too, but you said i wouldn't be able to reach you. And to be honest, my mother is saying goodbye [i'd prefer to say goodbye to the people i love best at home!]. Date: 19 May 1944.
