Oil on canvas, h=110 cm; l = 198cm. The painting was chosen by auguste migette to introduce his catalog. It is part of a series of nine large canvases dedicated to the history of metz. It represents the election of almobert in 1055, first master alderman, in front of the old basilica (on the site of st-étienne's cathedral). On the left we can see the ruins of a roman building on the site of the current covered market, on the right the charlemagne tower, and in the background the old fortifications. Date: 1862.
